It integrates several sciences such as Medicine, Pharmacy, Agriculture, Genetics, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Immunology, Virology, Chemistry, Engineering, Animal Husbandry, Ecology, Cell Biology, Soil science, Bio-statistics, Plant Physiology, and Seed Technology.
It is an exciting and challenging career involving the use of living things in the industrial process with lot of unexpected possibilities. Certain important tasks related to biotechnology are the production of bio-processed food, the pharmaceuticals, the tissue culture, the execution of pollution controlled measures, and the developmental studies in waste management.
Biotechnology is also used in developing various medicines, vaccines and diagnostics, increasing productivity, improving energy production and conservation. In the field of animal husbandry, it is the use of biotechnology which has improved animal breeding. Besides, it has improved the quality of seeds, insecticides and fertilizers.
