I had appeared for my board exams this year. I am keen to pursue my career in engineering but I don't have 60% in PCM because of maths. I wish to appear for maths improvement exam next year and meanwhile I'll prepare for engineering. Will there be any problem in doing so and when I'll be filling forms of competitive exams next year will I write 'appearing' or ' appeared' in that???

there will be no problem if uyou can produce your certificate at the time of counselling which happens in july
in that case you have to fill appearing and not appeared because then you will not be eligible for that(min aggrgate percentage for aieee is 60% )
